The Winetattoo is in Malaysia’s tropical island of Penang – one of South East Asia’s hottest destinations with the ancient Chinese mansions and temples of the Unesco World Heritage city of George Town, some of the world’s top street food, surprising wine bars and cocktail speakeasies. If that is not enough reason to visit, then this month, there is also the annual George Town Festival, an extravaganza that proposes a nonstop programme of international art exhibitions, theatre, dance, cinema and music. This is the 7th edition and the Festival’s curator, Joe Sidek, has succeeded in putting Penang firmly onto the world map of avant-garde arts festivals.

Here are some of the highlights of the exhibitions and street art, plus new bars, bistros and street food that serves till 4.00 in the morning
